DOGLAND NEWSLETTERS 2014

DOGLAND NEWSLETTERS EDITION 1

DOGLAND IS STARTING WITH MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS:

I can finally announce that I will tell you now every month what is going on in DOGLAND.

I am very grateful to have many friends and many people they want to help us - could be a help with a one-time donation or with a monthly donation or with a monthly donation sponsoring one of my dogs. Also persons who are dog lovers and they are interested in my work to help these defenseless creatures.

I am picking up every week - normally on Tuesday – dogs to bring them to my Veterinarians for castration – often also on a second day in the week. I needed many years to let the people know that they can call me when they want to castrate their animals and I will do it – also for free when they cannot pay it. I wished everybody who has a dog would spay/neuter the dog before he passes the age of six months. Calling me after the first litter means that I castrate the mother meanwhile the babies are given away and bring again many, many puppies in this world of overpopulation. This makes me sad. When I hear that somebody got a new baby I am asking where is the mother to have the possibility to castrate her.

After they put me seven puppies on my gate I wrote:
Put a cardboard box with puppies in the gate of a rescue center is not a solution, it is an action of irresponsibility. Please neuter their dogs on time!!!!!!! We are happy to help with the castration. You just have to contact me. And please - very, very important - do not buy dogs and support people who do business with animals. Please let me help you find your best friend. You cannot buy a friend!!!!!!!!

They all will bring a lot of joy to the families!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART FOR ADOPTING THESE WONDERFUL DOGS AND GIVING THEM A LIFE THEY DESERVE!!!!!!!

Sometimes I think I have made my life very difficult and I really did. I could live a good and comfortable life instead of having no money and time for me. It's a lot of pressure and responsibility and it seems to have no end. My fear is that I cannot do enough to really change the situation. But at least I try and I feel that my life has a meaning and I do my best to make all the dogs they are with me happy and healthy. My love for animals is so strong that sometimes I have the feeling something is pushing me and I cannot sleep without resolving the situation for some dogs in need.
I still believe that one person can change a lot. And I have so many wonderful moments and kiss every day so many dogs that my heart is filled with joy! And I meet through my dogs many wonderful people.

We all have the same obligations to be responsible. I have no more or less obligations as everyone else.

My dream is that people do not buy dogs – they only adopt dogs!!! - that they spay/neuter their dogs the latest with six months, that they take good care of their dogs and that they share with them their lives to experience the happiness a dog can give.

MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE WRONG IDEA THAT A ZAGUATE IS A CATEGORY BELOW OR LESS THAN A PURE BREED DOG.

I LOVE ZAGUATES FOR BEING A UNIQUE RACE AND I BELIEVE THAT THESE MIXED BREEDS, OR "ZAGUATES" ARE SPECIAL DOGS, THEY ARE UNREPEATABLE. EACH ONE IS A UNIQUE RACE IN THE WORLD.

THIS IS WHY I LOVE ZAGUATES – THEY ARE MY DOGS – EACH ONE IS DIFFERENT. NO TWO ARE THE SAME AND THERE WILL NEVER BE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME BREED.

THE RESULTING DOGS FROM THOSE DOG BREEDS MIXES CARRY A UNIQUE BEAUTY AND DIVERSITY THAT ONLY GOD CAN CREATE.

Remember that if you adopt, you'll be saving the life of a friend you did not know you had and he will be with you until the last drop of his life.

What we think or what we know or what we believe has a little consequence in the end, the only consequence has what we do.

DOGLAND NEWSLETTERS EDITION 2

In the months December 2013 until the end of February 2014 we got several dogs to heal and for castration. But some of these dogs will stay with us – Alonso and Viviana. Also the dog I picked up in San Ramon (Agnes), the dog they put me on the gate (Julie) and the four dogs from our trip to El Roble.
The seven babies in the box from December  - TEAGAN, CARRIE, LINDSAY, AUSTIN, CAPONE, CADE and RONALD - are meanwhile strong big puppies with 15 kg. They keep us busy!

All these are now our beloved new dogs which I want to present to you.

The four dogs in December - Claudia, Dario, Nelson and Ria - I got because of a promise I made. I was lucky to find a dog Lindsay, a lady from Canada was looking for. So especially the story how I get Nelson – the son of Elena - and also Claudia, Dario and Ria is connected with the history of finding Elena.

History about getting Claudia, Dario, Nelson and Ria:

Lindsay, the lady from Canada who travelled twice to Costa Rica to search for a thin dog she saw on the beach and was worried about. But on the day of her flight back to Canada the dog didn´t appear to take her home – Lindsay had already all the papers for her.

Here is the story Lindsay wrote:

I personally know that Helene is genuine and sincere and unbelievably passionate about what she does. I met Helene just by luck after having visited Costa Rica and falling in love with a dog found walking the beach looking for food. After getting everything organized to bring her home with me, I returned to the beach and could not find her and had to return home without her.

Feeling helpless sitting at home waiting to hear word from a few people I met at the resort while on Vacation I decided to fly back 2 days later and look for her myself. Again after 3 days of looking I still could not find her and had been told she may have passed away. (Given the state she was in I knew this was quite possible)

Two weeks went by and I still couldn't stop think about this dog, so I decided to start contacting various organizations in Costa Rica in hopes that someone might be able to help me find her. I was amazed by the outpouring of kindness I received by so many people willing to spread the story to get the word out, the offers I received for people to try to find people that were in the area of the resort so that they could go look. Then... I received a response from Helene and I knew my dog would be found. After three days of Helene communicating with our private tour guide from down there she decided that if this dog was going to be found she would have to be the one to find her. I woke up on Oct 26, 2013 to an email from Helene telling me that she decided she was driving to the beach where this dog was last seen and she was going to look for her herself. This was a 5 hour drive one way for Helene....I was speechless. I quickly called her and told her that I would book her a room at the resort so that way she could be right on the property and have no trouble accessing the beach. She tried to tell me not to because it would be too expensive but I didn't listen and knew her chances would be that much greater if she were right on the beach.

Helene arrived late in the afternoon and immediately started looking for her. I called later that evening to see how things were going and she was so sad and crying when she told me nothing yet but that she had all day the next day. The following day I honestly began to start thinking that maybe this dog had in fact passed, I decided to wait to call Helene until the evening when I knew she would to be driving the 5 hours back to her home.

I was fully prepared to hear that she had not been found and so I took a deep breath and dialed her number; Helene answered and as soon as she heard it was me I could tell she was crying and she said, "I FOUND HER..WE HAVE HER". I could not believe it, as much as I wanted to find her I was realistic enough to know that the chances were not in my favor.

Helene has been caring for "Elena" for a 1 week now and has provided her with the medical attention, blood tests, food, shelter and love that Elena so desperately needs. I will be traveling back to Costa Rica to pick Elena up in the very near future and cannot wait to meet Helene and of course see Elena again.

I hope this story helps you to realize that you are without a doubt donating to an angel who is the most selfless, caring and generous person that I have ever known.

                ELENA:

With the help of God I was able to find Elena and when I saw her in the village El Roble – 6 km away from the beach where Lindsay saw her - I knew this is Lindsay´s dog. It was one of the most amazing moments in my life.
Elena was very ill but she responded well to all the treatments we gave her.

Lindsay landed again in Costa Rica on November 8 and met ELENA in my house. It was so wonderful!

I made a promise and I returned on 4th of December 2013 to El Roble where I found Elena October 2013. Together with two Veterinarians and friends we castrated 42 animals and we took three dogs from El Roble to Dogland – Ria, Dario and Nelson – ELENA´S SON!!

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL STORY – ABOUT MORITZ:

Our first adopted dog in Canada was sent in 2010 to my beloved friend Fiona. The story started with the visit of Sarah from Canada in Dogland in Costa Rica. She liked our place very much. A few weeks later she wrote me from Canada that she cannot forget a dog she saw in Playa Samara during her vacations. I offered her to travel to Playa Samara to look for the dog, take him with me and send him after recovering to Canada.
I travelled to Playa Samara and looked around to find the dog. But I couldn´t find him. I was sad and returned to my car. On the way back a lady was coming to me and asked if am Helene and what I am looking for. I showed her the picture of the dog and she answered that she knows the dog. A friend of her adopted him a few weeks ago. I was so excited but when we called the man he told us that this dog died two days before I arrived.

I was so sad and wrote all to Sara.

Sara´s friend Fiona was touched about the story and she liked also that I was willing to travel to find the dog. She was looking for a dog and she decided to adopt a dog from Dogland.

This is her first letter she sent me:

Hello Helene!

I am Fiona, a friend of Sarah Lowe's.  I believe she may have been in contact with you recently? Through Sarah, I have heard many wonderful things about you and about your dog rescue efforts!

We live in Ontario, Canada though we have been spending the last year in France.  We are now en route back to our home near Toronto. We had been planning this year in France for over 5 years, and also planned to get a dog once we finished this sabbatical year.

And that time has come!

I am really excited to think that we might bring a dog into our homes and hearts in the near future. We have been dogless for the last 5 years, since my 2 beloved dogs, Sprite and Basil, both passed away within a month of each other due to age-related health problems. They were 13 and 14 yrs old.  At the time, our children were babies and we decided to hold off on adopting a furry family member.  The children are now 5 and 7 yrs old, and love dogs and are looking forward to adopting one. We also have 2 cats, one of whom is quite elderly.

I would be honored if you would consider us as an adoptive family for one of your wonderful dogs there in Costa Rica.  I don't really know how we go about this process, so any information you can give me, or any questions you have for me, would be wonderful!

We want to open our hearts and home to a dog who is gentle with children and ignores cats. My son, who is 7, has boundless energy and would love a dog to play chase with and throw a ball to.  My daughter, aged 5, thinks she would like to dress a dog up in a tutu and have a tea party with him or her!  I have tried to explain that most dogs would not want to wear a tutu or drink tea! Jane is working on a new plan that involves petting a dog and brushing him or her. We own our own home, and have a very large fenced back yard. I expect that I could take a dog to work with me much of the time as I am a veterinarian, so I work in a very dog-friendly environment.

I hope you will consider us if you have a dog that might be happy in our home!

Best wishes,
Fiona

We exchanged many e-mails and I sent many pictures and descriptions and finally Fiona decided for Moritz. I was so nervous when I sent my first dog to Canada and waited late in the night until Fiona sent me the good news – HE ARRIVED WELL and she liked him!!!

Moritz is living a wonderful life with Fiona and her family.
It makes me so happy that Fiona always sends me photos and reports because she knows I love all my dogs deeply and they are always in my heart.

The entire adoption process took only 12 days. From the initial introduction to the time Moritz touched down in Toronto.  Moritz was chosen for Fiona and her family because of his playful and gentle nature and his ability to get along with cats!

By all reports the match is perfect. Just yesterday arrived again an e-mail from Fiona with two beautiful pictures of Moritz. She wrote:
Hi Helene!
Just wanted to let you know that Moritz is continuing to do well and has so much fun here with us. Here is a photo taken today at a park. We were there for 3 hours and he ran around wherever he wanted, chasing bugs and having fun with the children!
He is such a sweet dog!

Thanks again for sending him to us!
Love Fiona

Fiona and her family adopted meanwhile a second dog in Canada who is a good company for Moritz.
